The Federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act

The Federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, your State's Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, and additional consumer protection laws were enacted to stop the illegal, abusive and menacing tactics that a debt collector, collection agency or creditor may use in their attempts to collect an overdue amount from you. Just because you owe money does not mean that a debt collector can continually call and threaten you, your friends, neighbors or your employer in an effort to secure payment.

You have rights under Fair Debt Collection Practices Laws, you CAN stop debt collector calls and letters. If you are being treated abusively by a debt collector, collection agency or creditor, contact a Fair Debt Collection Practices Attorney today for a free consultation.

Under The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act you have the right to sue a debt collector who violates the law. If you win, you may recover money for the damages you suffered plus an additional amount up to $1,000. Court costs and attorney's fees also can also be paid for by the debt collector or collection agency.
